About our Lafayette concrete contractor business

Concrete driveway with broad gray slabs and dark accent bands leading to a blue house beneath leafy trees.

How I came to concrete in Lafayette

I spent many years in another line of work before I came to concrete. I learned the trade on a Lafayette crew, and they started me on forms and grade work, shaping and packing the ground, long before they let me finish a slab. That order taught me most of what I know, because a slab is only as good as what's underneath it.

I started B&R Lafayette Concrete Construction in 2023 because I wanted to run jobs the careful way I was taught. Homeowners here and in the cities around Lafayette call us about driveways, patios, steps and slabs, and small business owners call about parking lots and walks. I care most about the parts you can't see once we've packed up, like the ground, the forms and the joints. I also believe you should understand what you're paying for, so I explain each step as we go. You can see the work we do on our home page.

What working with us looks like

  • Careful work on the ground under your slab

Most sinking and cracking starts below the concrete, so we dig out and pack the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, instead of raking dirt level and pouring. That base is buried by the end of the first day, which makes it the first thing a tight budget cuts, and it's where we'd rather spend your money than on extras up top.

  • The owner writes your estimate

I come out to look at your job myself and write the estimate, so the person you first speak with is the one who answers for the work. Our crew lead then runs the job with our finishers.

  • An estimate that says what's included

Your written estimate spells out what's in the price, such as tearing out the old concrete and hauling the debris away. That way you can set it next to other bids and compare them fairly.

  • Permits and licensing checked first

Before any work starts, we check with the permit office for your address, tell you plainly what they said, and handle the application when a permit is needed. We're fully licensed and insured, and since state law counts improvements or repairs to a house worth $7,500 or more as contractor work, it's fair to ask every bidder about their license. What you'll notice on the job

  1. Drainage checked

We look at where rain runs across your yard before we set forms, so the new slab sheds water away from your house, not toward it.

  2. Steel inside

We set rebar, the steel bars inside the slab, where the job calls for it, so if the concrete cracks, the pieces stay tied together.

  3. Cooler pours

We plan pours around the midday heat when we can, because concrete that dries too fast can leave a weak, dusty top.

  4. Joints on time

We cut control joints, shallow grooves that give the slab a place to crack, while it's fresh, so cracks follow lines we chose.

  5. Curing explained

We tell you when the slab is ready for foot traffic and when it's ready for your car, because curing, the slow hardening, needs that wait.
